Kedarkantha Trek – A Beginner Trekker’s Paradise

Trekking in the Kedarkantha Trek is some of the most beautiful winter treks in India, and getting there is an adventure of its own.

Also known as Bal Kedar, this magnificent peak (with a height of 3800 meters) lies within the Govind Wildlife Sanctuary in Uttarakhand.

Frayed with pines and dedicated to Lord Shiva, Kedarkantha (out of all the treks in Uttrakhand) is by far the most popular trek due to the relative ease of its trail and the gradual acclimatisation to the altitude.

Kedarkantha not only provides a variety of challenging terrains to its voyagers but also offers them a plethora of unique experiences, such as:

  • Majestic views of charming remote villages,
  • Breathtaking picturesque views,
  • Swargarohini, Kalanag, Gangotri, and Bandarpoonch (popular peaks) will all be visible,
  • Rich forests and fields,
  • Landscape encircled by scenic river valleys, mountains, and Himalayan peaks.

As a bonus, in dead winter, the region (Kedarkantha) also offers its trekkers unique opportunities to experience life at remote villages near the summit.

During Which Season Is Kedarkantha Trek Best?

The Kedarkantha trek is one of the few treks in Uttarakhand that can be hiked at any time of the year except July and August when the state of Uttarakhand experiences a heavy rainy season.

During Summer

  • During the summer, you can see neighbouring mountains as the weather is mild.

During Monsoon

  • If you plan to hike during monsoon season, there will be difficulties.
  • During monsoons, the area becomes prone to landslides, which lead to road blockages.
  • Although it will be a little tedious, the Himalayan meadows will surely be worth the effort.

In Winter

  • In Winter, a layer of the silver sheet remains on top of the trail.
  • Therefore, the trek becomes more challenging and thrilling simultaneously.
